Kei Nishikori has defeated Stan Wawrinka 7-6(3) 6-3 and will progress to the mens final against either Raonic or Dimitrov.
Earlier in the day
We’re live from Brisbane in what is another hot humid day of tennis action. Rain has been falling all week but finally looks set to clear in time for the men’s final.
Yesterday, Kyle Edmund had been in the lead of his match 6-3 3-1 against his opponent Lukas Pouille when the Frenchman was forced to retire early due to injury. That left the world ranked number 45 clear to progress to the final eight and face off against Stan Wawrinka. He won the first set in a tight contest against Wawrinka proving he has what it takes to climb the world rankings of international tennis.
Wawrinka eventually clawed his way back into the match to claim victory over the gutsy Englishman but Edmund has clearly impressed the crowd here with his effort and looks primed for a big 2017 season. It might not be outside the realm of possibility that we may see him slip inside the top 25 ranking before the year is out.

Kei Nishikori battles Wawrinka on the court and is currently in the lead. This could be a repeat of the Edmund v Wawrinka match but 27 year old Nishikori is no stranger to winning big having won 11 singles titles and come runner up in the 2014 US Open.
With Tennis stars spread out across Australia tonight it’s no a surprise that crowd favourite Roger Federer is not on court in Brisbane. He instead opted for the even warmer climate of Perth where the former world number 1 has just totally annhililated Richard Gasquet 6-1 6-4 to claim victory there. The decisive win signals he is clearly ready to take on the world’s best at the Australian Open in nine days time.
